Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at initial appointment are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
• Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA
• Enrolled residents in approved programs may be appointed as Physician Residents Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis
• Proficiency in English
• Certification in Addiction Psychiatry or Addiction Medicine
• DEA Waiver to Prescribe Buprenorphine
• Experience in treating Opioid Use Disorders
• Preferred: ABPN Addiction Board Certification
• Physical ability to perform all position activities

Duties

• This is an open continuous announcement; qualified applicants will be referred weekly.
• Provide healthcare services to veterans at Fayetteville NC VA Coastal Healthcare System, including psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Refer patients for ancillary or specialty services as needed, within VA systems.
• Perform duties such as establishing diagnoses, developing treatment plans, ordering tests, and documenting in the CPRS system.
• Prescribe medications according to formulary, with variance only when clinically indicated.
• Serve as treatment and consulting psychiatrist on the Pain Management Clinic Team.
• Complete administrative and referral duties as assigned, following VA policies.
• Provide psychiatric consultation to other services and perform other duties as assigned.
